Why baths turn into a wrestling match
For a lot of dogs, the tub means being trapped with nothing to do but panic. They squirm, bolt, and turn a 10-minute bath into a two-person struggle — because there's nothing keeping them calm and focused.
The lick mat trick
Give your dog a job. Smear a spoonful of peanut butter (xylitol-free), plain yogurt, or wet food across a Calm-Grooming Lick Mat, press it to the tub or wall with the suction back, and let them lick while you wash. The slow licking does two things: it distracts them and it physically calms them — repetitive licking releases feel-good endorphins and lowers stress.
Beyond baths
- Brushing: stick the mat at nose height so they hold still while you groom.
- Nail trims: the classic use — they focus on licking instead of the clippers.
- Vet visits & car rides: a smeared mat takes the edge off stressful moments.
- Slow feeding: it also turns a gulped meal into a calm activity.
Setup takes 30 seconds
Spread, stick, and let them lick. Rinse it or pop it in the dishwasher after. Grooming stops being a fight and starts being easy. See the Calm-Grooming Lick Mat →
