Indoor Games to Burn Your Dog's Energy on Rainy Days

Bad weather doesn't have to mean a wild dog

Skipping the walk because of rain usually means a restless, pent-up dog by evening. The good news: you can burn most of that energy indoors — and mental games tire a dog out faster than laps around the yard.

5 indoor games that actually work

  • Hallway fetch. A lightweight, easy-to-grip Fetch & Training Toy is perfect for short indoor tosses down a hallway or living room.
  • Snuffle hunt. Scatter kibble into a Snuffle Mat and let them forage. Ten minutes of sniffing equals a genuinely tired dog.
  • Find it. Hide treats around a room and send your dog to search. Start easy, then make it harder.
  • Stair recall. If you have stairs, toss a toy up and call your dog back down — quick bursts of exercise.
  • Training snack. Run through sit, down, stay, and a new trick. Five minutes of learning drains real mental energy.

The rule of thumb

Mix one physical game with one nose or brain game and most dogs are ready to nap. Rainy days become the easy days. See the Fetch & Training Toy →
